If you've read the blog over the last couple of weeks, you have seen a little of my quest to make Team UmiZoomi dolls for Lydia for Christmas. While she was out yesterday, I had some prime sewing time to finish Milli! I'm most critical of my own work, so I could point out a number of flaws. But none are likely to be noticed by a 5 year old on Christmas morning as she is flipping out over it!
Update: I am so flattered by the requests I have received to make sets of Team UmiZoomi dolls. Even though it breaks my heart, I turn down these requests due to copyright issues, CPSIA red tape, and lack of time. My purpose in writing these posts was to gather information, so that we parents could try and fill the gap Nickelodeon has left for us. I continually refer people to the first and second posts in this series for sewing and crochet pattern ideas. Hope that helps!

You are such a great mom. As sick as you were, you took that time to work on your childs Christmas Present.
God has specials rewards for moms like you.
Oh my goodness, that doll is absolutely adorable!!! I just saw this latest post AFTER I commented on the last one. GREAT JOB! Are you selling them??? :D
You just never cease to amaze me!!
Thanks, guys!
ha - I half expected the sales question to come up. Because of copyright/licensing red tape, CPSIA regulations, and just plain lack of time, no, I will not be selling these. I intend to make exactly one set, for my own little UmiFriend. :)
well I can't wait to see the others.. very inspiring!
I love this cute doll. I have plans to make a doll but the face is stopping me. How or where did you get the face? Did you paint it on? Is there a tutorial somewhere? That is the only thing about dolls that keeps me from trying.
Oh, do try! The easiest way I've found to transfer the face is to use my light box. I place the fabric over a photocopy of the face, and either trace it or paint directly onto it. If you don't have a light box, you can use a window on a sunny day, or a glass-top table with a lamp underneath.
This particular face came from the Nick Jr website, their Milli paper doll printable (which I've also used to make the pattern): http://www.nickjr.com/printables/milli-pattern-paper-dolls.jhtml
Kim, you did an amazing job! Dollmaking is special, but giving her exactly what she wanted, AND handmade by you...awesome!
Wow! I like the doll so much! The color combination is so nice too. It's perfect for a Christmas gift. My daughter likes to play dolls. The Christmas presents she received includes clothes for 18 inch dolls or clothing for 18 inch dolls. The items will be added to her collection of dolls and accessories.
Thanks for sharing your child's present! It's really adorable!
OMGoodness! I LOVE this doll! I wish I had your talent. You did a wonderful job making her!
Can you make me a milli doll? My 18mos. old grandaughter loves her and I would love to give this to her for xmas!!!
Oh, Mary, I wish I could! I have chosen not to sell them because of copyright issues. My purpose in writing these posts was to gather information, so that us parents and grandparents could better fill the gap Nickelodeon has left for us. I would encourage you to read the earlier posts with sewing and crochet pattern ideas, and give it a try!
I just got an idea while looking and planning on making my dolls for my daughter... I was thinking in Milli's hair if I'd put wiring in it it would be stiffer so it would be bent like her hair :) Just a little idea
Great idea, Rayna! Maybe a pipe cleaner or something? I'd bend the ends under so they don't poke through, though. :)
